PARSIPPANY, NJ March 24, 2006 — Quadrant
HealthCom Inc. is pleased to announce that Emergency Medicine® magazine
will now focus exclusively on the growing emergency medicine marketplace.
The change is being made in recognition of the opportunity presented
by the emergency medicine specialty and the fact that Emergency Medicine® is
uniquely positioned to meet the information and educational needs of
the specialty.
Emergency Medicine®, trusted by emergency medicine physicians for almost
40 years, brings unmatched credibility and a voice of authority to physicians
who are in the trenches of emergent patient care. The newly-focused journal will
broaden and deepen its editorial coverage to better address the increasingly
dynamic and fast-paced emergency medicine sector. Coverage will include urgent
care (acute complaints that are not full-fledged emergencies), which many emergency
departments now treat in so-called “fast track” units. Challenging
issues confronting the specialty include overcrowding and delayed patient care.
Numerous sources, such as the American Hospital Association and the CDC, have
noted that visits to the emergency department (ED) have increased 11% to 26%
in the last five to 10 years, respectively.
Effective with the May 2006 issue, Emergency Medicine® will reach
the entire universe of emergency department physicians and residents,
plus more than 5,000 physician assistants and nurse practitioners who
work in EDs, for an average monthly circulation of more than 33,000.
Emergency Medicine® will be the only peer-reviewed practice journal
serving the EM market.
Extensive reader research conducted in 2005 has provided insights into
the “best read” and “most desired” editorial
content for emergency physicians. Based on this research, Emergency
Medicine® has
already begun to enhance its ED-related content with new departments
and features. Additionally, Emergency Medicine® will launch a series
of educational products designed specifically for emergency physicians
and other ED-based clinicians. These products will be developed and marketed
jointly by the Emergency Medicine® staff and the Quadrant Medical
Education department.
As it expands circulation to the emergency medicine market, Emergency
Medicine® will cease regular distribution to office-based primary
care physicians. However, Quadrant HealthCom remains committed to our
loyal primary care audience and will continue to serve the primary care
market through existing publications and an expanding array of educational
programs.
Amy Clarke, SVP, noted that "this is an exciting time for Quadrant HealthCom
as we will be taking another of our successful publications to a new phase
of development." She continued, "we look forward to establishing
Emergency Medicine® as the market leader."
