PARSIPPANY, NJ December 15, 2005 — The
American Journal of Orthopedics (AJO) is pleased to announce the appointment
of Peter D. McCann, MD, as Editor in Chief, beginning in January 2006.
The journal’s current Editor in Chief, John S. Gould, MD, is leaving the
post after 10 years of service to the journal in that role. He will continue
as Senior Consultant.
Dr. McCann’s appointment follows a collaborative effort by Dr.
Gould, the journal’s Editorial Board, and Quadrant HealthCom Inc.,
the journal’s publisher, to continue the leadership of the journal
into 2006 and beyond. Upon Dr. McCann’s appointment, he commented “My
intention as Editor in Chief at AJO is to expand upon the innovations
of my gifted predecessor, John S. Gould, MD, who brought to the broad
general orthopedic community accessible, clinically useful, and reliable
information, that will help the practitioner provide the best possible
patient care."
Barbara Ready, Editor, works closely with the EIC and anticipates Dr.
McCann’s valuable input. She noted that “the January 2006
issue will premiere a whole new look and feel with a handsome cover design,
with clinical photos, and the interior pages’ bold, modern look
will draw the attention of our readers. AJO’s key departments such
as the Pinnacle Series, Orthopedic Technologies & Techniques, and
Tips of the Trade, in conjunction with our original studies, review papers
and case reports, will continue to serve the informational needs of physicians
in the various subspecialties of orthopedic surgery.”
A graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons,
Dr. McCann completed his orthopedic residency at Columbia Presbyterian
Medical Center and trained as a Shoulder Fellow at Columbia under the
leadership of his mentor, Charles S. Neer, II, MD. He is a member of
American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and has limited his practice to
shoulder and elbow surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York
City for the past 15 years. He was appointed Chair of the Department
of Orthopaedic Surgery at Beth Israel in 2004. Dr. McCann is married
to Deborah Berke, a noted architect.
With the start of 2006, The American Journal of Orthopedics is beginning its 35th year of publication. Its circulation, which includes the universe of orthopedic surgeons practicing in the United States, exceeds 29,000, and the journal publishes a mix of original research, review papers, and case reports, together with a variety of series and departments. The journal’s Website is located at www.amjorthopedics.com.
