PARSIPPANY, NJ December 21, 2005 — The
Female Patient (TFP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Vivian
M. Dickerson, MD, FACOG, as Editor-in-Chief, beginning in January 2006.
The journal’s current Editor-in-Chief, Thomas E. Nolan, MD, MBA, FACOG, is leaving the post after 14 years of service to the journal.
The appointment of Dr. Dickerson, who has served as an Associate Editor
of TFP’s Advisory Board since 1999, follows a collaborative effort
by Dr. Nolan; the journal’s Editorial Board; and Quadrant HealthCom
Inc., the journal’s publisher, to continue the leadership of the
journal into 2006 and beyond. Upon her appointment as Editor-in-Chief,
Dr. Dickerson stated, “I am honored to be selected to carry on
the traditions of excellence of Dr. Nolan. I look forward to continued
growth and development of the journal while supporting the needs and
interests of the readership.”
Tracey L. Giannouris, Editor, works closely with the Editor-in-Chief
and anticipates Dr. Dickerson’s valuable contributions and insight.
She noted “Dr. Dickerson is dedicated to fulfilling TFP’s
mission to present cutting edge clinical information of the highest caliber
to readers on conditions that are specific to or manifest themselves
uniquely
in women.”
A graduate of the University of California, San Diego, Dr. Dickerson
completed her OB/GYN residency at the University of California Los Angeles
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Dickerson is the Immediate Past President
of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and was the
first woman to ever serve as a District Chair of that organization. She
just completed eight years as the Director of General OB-GYN at the University
of California Irvine. Dr. Dickerson is a member of the Board of Directors
of the Jacobs Institute for Women’s Health, and a past Chair of
the California Family Health Council Board of Directors. She was recently
elected as a Fellow of the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society.
She has published widely on issues of obesity and heart disease in women
and served on the Expert Steering Committee on Women and Heart Disease
with the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
In 2006, The Female Patient, a peer-reviewed journal, is entering into
its 31st year of publication. Its circulation, comprised of highly productive
prescribers that drive the female health market, includes the universe of obstetrician-gynecologists
practicing in the United States, 12,000 primary care physicians, and 8,000
nurse practitioners total circulation exceeds 61,000. The journal publishes
review papers and case reports, together with a variety of series and departments.
